Former Ohio State University wide receiver Bobby Olive was named the first-ever head coach of the Columbus Wild Dogs in December 2019. Bobby and the Wild Dogs will make their official on-field debut in the Spring of 2022.
“I’m excited to get back to Columbus,” Bobby said upon being hired by the Wild Dogs. “I know Buckeye Nation is going to support our organization and we expect to be the class of the league, both on the field and off. Mr. (Steve) Germain and his family have made a huge commitment not only to Columbus, but to the entire sport, and we expect to reward that commitment with a product that everyone will be proud to support.”
Bobby will serve as wide receivers coach of the Frisco Fighters, a team also owned by the Steve Germain Family, for the 2021 season. No stranger to indoor football, Bobby has coached the indoor game at many levels, including being an assistant coach for the Arena Football League's Columbus Destroyers and serving as head coach of the AIFL's Canton Legends for two seasons, leading the Legends to their first championship as a first-year head coach.
Bobby was a three-year starter at wide receiver for the Ohio State Buckeyes where he was named All-Big Ten as a senior. Following his collegiate career, Olive was an 11th round draft choice of the Kansas City Chiefs in the 1991 NFL Draft. He spent four years in the NFL, including stints with the Chiefs, Atlanta Falcons, and Indianapolis Colts. Olive also won a World Bowl Championship during the 1995 season in NFL Europe as a member of the Frankfurt Galaxy. He spent one season in the Canadian Football League with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats before entering the Arena Football League in 1999 as a member of the Buffalo Destroyers.
